The School of Computing and Data Science congratulates Liu Zhongze from the Bachelor of Digital Media Technology programme, along with his advisors Dr. Burra Venkata Durga Kumar, Dr. Zamratul Asyikin Binti Amran and Dr. Teh Jia Yew, for winning the Gold Award and a cash prize of RM 1,500 at the Malaysia-Japan Research Competition (MJL–JACTIM 2025). The competition was organized by Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) on 14 October 2025 at Grand Petra Hall, Residency UTMKL.

The award-winning project, titled "Smart Farm Monitoring System: An Intelligent 3D Agricultural Management Platform", introduces the world’s first real-time 3D agricultural digital twin. The system integrates OpenGL 4.6 rendering, L-System plant modeling, and AI-driven sensor fusion, enabling the simulation of over 10,000 plant instances at 60+ FPS using less than 512 MB of memory.

This innovation addresses the real-time simulation bottlenecks in current digital agriculture technologies. Experimental results demonstrate significant impact: up to 30% water savings, 25% fertilizer reduction, and 15% crop loss prevention.

The Malaysia-Japan Research Competition (MJL-JACTIM), organized annually by UTM through the Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT), invites undergraduate and postgraduate students from UTM and other universities to showcase their innovative research ideas that promote a smarter, more sustainable, and inclusive future. Participants may join individually or in groups of up to five members, including one academic advisor, and compete through three stages; Abstract Submission, Poster Presentation, and Pitching.
