While much of the world has moved on from Spring Festival celebrations, students at Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) remained in high spirits as they came together to celebrate Nauryz, the traditional Spring Festival widely observed across Central Asia.
Organized by XMUM CIS Community, the event marked XMUM's inaugural celebration of Nauryz, bringing together students from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and other Central Asian countries. Held on the evening of 17 April at B1-114, the event showcased the vibrant cultures of the region through traditional games, music, and dance performances.
Adding to the event's significance, Mr. Kyran Orynbekov, Counsellor of the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Malaysia, attended the celebration. In a brief address, he expressed support for the cultural efforts of Central Asian students abroad and encouraged continued cross-cultural exchange.
Also present at the event were H.E. Mr. Anvar Anarbaev, Ambassador of the Kyrgyz Republic to Malaysia; Mr. Tugral Khayrulloev, Consul at the Embassy of Tajikistan in Malaysia; as well as Ms. Akmaral Belgibekova and Ms. Alua Aimagambetova from the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Malaysia.
Nauryz is a traditional folk spring festival based on the worship of nature, the sun and the universe. Observed in several countries in Asia and the Middle East, it is associated with a love of nature and all living things, a respect for human beings, and the spread of good.
Currently, XMUM is home to students from 48 countries and regions, making it a diverse and dynamic campus community. With celebrations ranging from Chinese New Year and Eid to Deepavali and Christmas - and now Nauryz - the university continues to foster a global learning environment where cultures are shared and celebrated.
