6 Silver & 6 Bronze Prizes! XMUM Undergraduate Teams Shines at the 2024 China International College Students’ Innovation Competition

The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Centre congratulates 12 teams from Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) for bringing back 6 Silver Prizes, and 6 Bronze Prizes from the 2024 China International College Students Innovation Competition (CICSIC).

The 2024 China International College Students Innovation Competition is organised by the Ministry of Education of the Peoples Republic of China. It is one of the largest global innovation competitions. This competition actively promotes international exchanges and cooperation to establish a global competition platform that combines innovation with praxis for college students. From 2017 to 2023, more than 30,000 international projects and 90,000 international college students from over 150 countries and regions participated in the competition.

Among the 12 awarded teams, 7 were also recognized in the 2024 Malaysia-China Youth Innovation Competition (MCYIC), organized by XMUM. As the MCYIC served as the Malaysia Division Contest for the CICSIC, these 7 winning teams from MCYIC were further recommended to advance to the China International College Students Innovation Competition (CICSIC). They performed outstandingly, winning 3 silver prizes and 4 bronze prizes. Description: AquaRocket is a sampling and monitoring system with an underwater glider as the mounting platform. It is committed to the use of equipment cruise dynamic monitoring and system model assessment and prediction, the risk of regional algae proliferation, and pollution early warning, to alleviate the problem of pollution control in the relevant areas. At the same time, through the intelligent organization and model processing of algae-related data, it provides data convenience and scientific assessment results for researchers and related organizations.

Leading the Way in Smart Identification and Control of Pest and Disease in Navel Oranges

Description: The project focuses on leveraging artificial intelligence to develop an intelligent system for pest and disease identification and control in navel orange orchards. It aims to address challenges such as the diversity of pests, low algorithm accuracy, and difficulty in diagnosing early symptoms. Through innovative deep-learning models and collaboration with industry experts, the project achieves an accuracy rate of 98.53% in detecting navel orange-related pests and diseases and integrates its solutions into a user-friendly Android application. The system has been successfully trialed in some orchards in Ganzhou, providing significant benefits to local farmers and advancing sustainable agriculture.

Description: Twilight Tech Studio has launched an innovative bone-conduction hearing aid designed for the prevention and detection of Alzheimer's disease using advanced machine-learning technology. Combining expertise from China and Malaysia, the project addresses key healthcare challenges and is aligned with national initiatives such as Internet + Healthcare and Silver Economy. Our device can not only detect early signs of Alzheimer's through intelligent voice analysis but also provide cognitive stimulation to help delay cognitive decline. Other features include voice chat, navigation assistance, and a smart companion app for real-time monitoring, location tracking, and medical reminders. Targeting the elderly, caregivers, and people with hearing impairments, the solution aims to improve quality of life and provide timely medical support. With financial support from angel investors and a multidisciplinary team, we are committed to driving sustainable innovation in medical technology.

The system automatically sorts waste, alerts users with voice prompts, and allows for real-time monitoring, enhancing waste management efficiency and providing valuable data for mall operators.
