On 4 December 2024, Prof. Martin Pumera, Head of Future Energy & Innovation Lab at Central European Institute of Technology (CEITEC), Brno, Czech Republic, delivered a Plenary Talk titled "3D Printing for Electrochemical Energy Conversion: From Hydrogen Generation to Ammonia Production" at Xiamen University Malaysia.
The event was a collaborative effort of School of Energy and Chemical Engineering (SECE), Center of Excellence for NaNo Energy and Catalysis Technology (CONNECT), and the Research and Postgraduate Center (RPC), attracting significant attention from both faculty and students. XMUM Assistant President, Prof. Dr. Wang Hui-Qong and Dean of SECE, Prof. Dr. Chen Binghui, also attended the event.
In this 2-hour talk, Prof. Martin Pumera introduced the use of 3D printing technology in enhancing efficiency and scalability of electrochemical processes, particularly in hydrogen generation and ammonia production. He discussed the fabrication of advanced electrode materials and reactor designs, highlighting the potential of 3D printing in addressing challenges in renewable energy storage and chemical manufacturing. After the talk, he gave a briefing session named "Appl. Mater. Today: Publishing Workshop", as the Editor-in-Chief of Applied Materials Today.
The event also featured a Q&A Session, during which the audience engaged actively, posing critical questions, and contributing to a stimulating discussion, covering a range of current issues and trends, including commercialized 3D printer, current 3D printing industry, and interesting postdoctoral related issues. Prof. Martin Pumera expressed his appreciation for the engaging dialogue and the thoughtful questions raised by the participants.
Prof. Martin Pumera is the Head of Future Energy & Innovation Lab at CEITEC, Brno, Czech Republic and Director of Advanced Nanorobots Laboratory at Technical University Ostrava. He has broad interests in nanomaterials and microsystems, in the specific areas of electrochemistry and synthetic chemistry of 2D nanomaterials, nanotoxicity, micro and nanomachines, and 3D printing. In the past few years, Prof. Martin Pumera has published over 900 papers, which received more than 75,000 citations.
