15 XMUM Teams Outperform at Contemporary Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling 2023

15 teams of XMUM students shine in the Contemporary Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling (CUMCM) 2023, taking home one First Prize, three Second Prizes and eleven Successful Participant Prizes.

It includes 43 students from 5 Schools and Department(s), namely School of Mathematics and Physics, School of Electrical Engineering and Artificial Intelligence, School of Computing and Data Science, School of Energy and Chemical Engineering, and School of Economics and Management.

The Contemporary Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling (CUMCM) is an annual contest for undergraduates all over the world, organized by the China Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (CSIAM). In 2023, the competition attracted 59,611 teams with nearly 180,000 participants from over 1685 institutions all over the world.

In the contest, teams of at most three members are required to develop mathematical and / or computer models to solve a simplified real-world problem in three days. This competition aims to improve students’ understanding of mathematics, especially mathematical modelling and mathematical software, while enhancing students' motivation for studying mathematics and cultivating their creativity and overall ability.
