2023-10-02

The School of Computing and Data Science congratulate Dr. Burra Venkata Durga Kumar, Dr. Teh Jia Yew, Dr. Ili Farhana Biti Md Mahtar, Ng Wei Chen and Loh Fu Quan for winning the Bronze Award at Borneo International Innovation and Invention Competition (BIIIC) 2023.

The topic of the winning project is “Deep Learning & Knowledge-Based Echocardiogram Report Automated (ERA) System”. Echocardiography, a non-invasive imaging technique, has emerged as a vital tool in cardiovascular medicine. It provides detailed visualization and assessment of the heart's structure, function, and blood flow patterns. By utilizing sound waves to create realtime images, echocardiography allows clinicians to evaluate cardiac health, diagnose various cardiac conditions, and guide treatment decisions. This research aims to assist medical organizations by integrating the power of AI and generateing accurate echocardiogram reports automatically.

Ng Wei Chen, a third-year student Artificial Inteligence Programme said: This is a testament to the hard work and dedication in developing this echocardiogram report automated system. Winning this award has inspired me to continue finding innovative solutions to real-world challenges.

Loh Fu Quan, expressed his gratitute to his supervisors and teammate: I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to my partner, Ng Wei Chen, for contributing numerous insightful ideas to the project. I also extend my thanks to Dr. Burra Venkata Durga Kumar, Dr. Teh Jia Yew and Dr. Ili Farhana Biti Md Mahtar, for their unwavering support and valuable advice."

Held by Bintulu Vocational College and Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Sarawak, BIIIC invites young people from primary school to university to showcase their mind-blowing ideas under the category of Technology, Non-technology and Teaching & Learning Innovation.
