The Research and Postgraduate Centre congratulates Zhao Wenqi and Asst. Prof. Dr. Ong Chui Zi from the School of Economics and Management on winning the Best Paper Award at the 12th International Conference on Traffic and Logistics with Systems Engineering.

Their paper entitled “Deep Learning Predicts Gold Futures Prices: A Comparative Study Based on LSTM and GRU Models” applied the long short-term memory (LSTM) and gated recurrent unit (GRU) models to forecast the gold future prices separately and the forecasting results of the two models are compared. It is found that the prediction error of the GRU model is smaller than that of the LSTM model and the results are more accurate. This conclusion provides a guide for the selection of models when using deep learning to predict gold prices.

The International Conference on Traffic and Logistics with Systems Engineering is a well-established academic conference that has been held for 12 consecutive years. It is jointly organized by the Hunan Institute of Systems Engineering and Management, China and the Business, Nature and Value Research Centre, UK.
