Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) is now seeking highly motivated, committed and qualified individual to join our diverse and dynamic university for the position of LABORATORY OFFICER.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

1)         Applicants must possess a Master degree in the related discipline

2)         At least two (2) years of working experience in a laboratory

3)         Good command of English

4)         Excellent presentation and interpersonal skills

JOB DESCRIPTION: LABORATORY OFFICER ANDTECHNICIAN

The Laboratory Officer and Laboratory Technician are the backbone of a scientific laboratory. They play an important role in the overall safety and managing the daily operations of the laboratory. They are responsible for all aspects of the laboratory, including but not limited to: instruments/ equipment, users of the laboratory, and supplies needed to ensure the laboratory runs smoothly. They play an important role as the bridge between laboratory operations and general practice.

A) LABORATORY TECHNICIAN

1. CHEMICAL ENGINEERING LABORATORY (CME)   

REQUIREMENTS:

• Good communication skills in English and Bahasa Malaysia;

• Able to adapt in a dynamic working environment;

• Eager to learn new knowledge;

• Able to work independently with minimum supervision;

• Give technical support to perform routine laboratory. 

QUALIFICATION:

• Candidate must possess at least Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry.

• Fresh graduates are encouraged to apply;

• Preferably non-Executive specialized in Chemistry or equivalent;

B) LABORATORY OFFICER (WITH LAB PRACTICAL TEACHING)

1.  CHEMICAL ENGINEERING LABORATORY (CME)

REQUIREMENTS:

• Working experience related to laboratory setup and maintenance;

• Teaching experience.

• Significant experience in setting up Chemical Engineering labs and conducting the related lab courses.

• Experience in working in a higher education establishment.

• Experience with Malaysian Qualification Agencies (MQA) and Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC) requirements and evaluations.

• Experience in conducting laboratory demonstration particularly in chemical engineering related teaching/research area.

• Excellent communication skills.

• Very good organizational and multi-tasking abilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master holder in related subject (i.e. chemical engineering or other relevant subjects).

2. ELECTRICAL, ELECTRONIC ENGINEERING LABORATORY (EEE)

REQUIREMENTS:

• Working experience related to laboratory setup and maintenance;

• Teaching experience.

• Significant experience in setting up Electrical and Electronics Engineering labs and conducting the related lab courses.

• Experience in working in a higher education establishment.

• Experience with Malaysian Qualification Agencies (MQA) and Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC) requirements and evaluations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master in Electrical and Electronics Engineering or related majors

• Majoring in microwave is preferable

• Graduate Engineer with Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM).

3. MARINE BIOTECHNOLOGY LABORATORY (MBT)

REQUIREMENTS:

• Experience in conducting laboratory demonstration particularly in marine related teaching/research area, such as

o   Ecology and mariculture laboratory technique

o   Usage of analytical instruments such as HPLC and AAS

o   Histology and staining technique

o   Cell culture technique

• Experience in marine related field experiments

• Excellent communication skills

• Very good organizational and multi-tasking abilities

QUALIFICATIONS:

• At least MSc. holder in related subject (e.g. Chemistry, Biotechnology, Life Science or other relevant subjects)

4. SCHOOL OF PHYSICS & NEW ENERGY SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING

REQUIREMENTS:

• Experience in conducting laboratory demonstration

• Knowledge of astronomy and/or handling of telescopes will be an advantage.

• Excellent communication skills

• Very good organizational and multi-tasking abilities

QUALIFICATIONS:

• MSc. Or PhD. holder in related subject (i.e. Physics or other relevant subjects)

C) LABORATORY OFFICER (INSTRUMENT SPECIALIST)

1. SCHOOL OF CHEMISTRY

REQUIREMENTS:

• The Lab Officer must be competent in operating the following instruments:

o   Atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS)

o   Inductively coupled plasma - optical emission spectrometry(ICP-OES)

o   Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR)

o   UV-Spectrophotometry

• Experienced users of the following techniques would be an advantage.

o   Advance molecular biology technique: gene cloning, protein expression and protein purification.

o   Protein analysis: 2D-gel electrophoresis, western-blotting, protein chromatography.

o   Tissue culture and cell biology technique

o   Bacterial culture technique

o   Histology and fluorescence microscope technique 

QUALIFICATIONS:

• A master degree or equivalent professional qualification and experience in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry and Chemical Engineering.
