4,800 Students across Malaysia Participate in the 3rd Chen Jingrun's Cup Mathematics Competition

To promote students’ interests in mathematics and enhance their logical thinking skills, Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) has organized Chen Jingrun’s Cup Secondary School Mathematics Competition for three consecutive years since 2017.

On 9 April 2019, the third Chen Jingrun’s Cup Mathematics Competition was held concurrently at 5 regions across Malaysia. The competition attracts more than 4,800 students from 61 schools and some independent entries, who competed in Senior, Intermediate and Junior categories.

Sew Qian Hong from Chong Hwa Independent High School Kuala Lumpur becomes the top scorer in the Senior category, while Tristan Chaang Tze Shen from Kuen Cheng High School and Ryan Joo Rui An from Chong Hwa Independent High School Kuala Lumpur are named the top scorers for the Intermediate category and the Junior category respectively. Tristan is the only participant scoring full marks in the competition this year. He has ranked top in the category he participated for three consecutive years.

This is the first time that the competition is opened to all secondary school and pre-university students in Malaysia. Outstanding participants are awarded top ten prizes, high distinction, distinction and credit respectively, while the nationwide top 100 students in each category are also named. High achievers in Senior category would be given scholarship offers if they meet the entry requirements of XMUM degree programmes.
