Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) emerged as the Top Performer among all participating Malaysian universities in Simon Marais Mathematics Competition held on 13 October 2018.
Simon Marais Mathematics Competition is a mathematics competition for undergraduate students in the Asia-Pacific region. This year’s competition attracted the participation of 50 universities from 10 countries, including Australia, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, New Zealand and Singapore.
First-year student Hong Khay Boon from Mathematics and Applied Mathematics Programme won the title of Best Individual among all the participants from Malaysia, ranking 22th among all the 355 participants in the Individual Category. Han Yiming and Wei Lan from Computer Science and Technology Programme were crowned the Best Pair among Malaysia contestants.
XMUM maintained the honor of being the Top Performer in Malaysia thanks to the outstanding performance of its team of 8 students (Hong Khay Boon, Han Yiming, Wei Lan, Zhang Zhangluo, Wang Yichuan, Joshua Ngerng Yong Chang, Lee Jia Hong and Shao Zhibo).
XMUM started to offer the undergraduate programme of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics since October 2018. With a strong curriculum emphasizing both theories and real-life applications, it aims to provide leading education in mathematics studies and become a cradle for young mathematicians across Malaysia, China and the region.
