129 Principals and Deputy Principals from 80 SMJKs Visit XMUM


On April 2018, 129 principals and deputy principals of 80 Sekolah Menengah Jenis Kebangsaan (SMJK) visited Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM).  

Led by Mr Tan Teik Seong and Mr Lim Hiang Lam, Chairman and Vice Chairman, respectively, of the Council of SMJK Principals Malaysia, the guests were warmly welcomed by XMUM staff and students.  

XMUM President Prof. Wang Ruifang expressed his deep gratitude to SMJK’s support, pointing out that currently over 40% of XMUM foundation students are coming from SMJKs, He said that he was looking forward to welcome even more high-quality SMJK graduates to study at XMUM.  

In his speech, Prof. Wang stated that as a non-profit educational institution, XMUM is a historic reciprocation to Malaysia where Mr Tan Kah Kee, the founder of Xiamen University, has made his fortune. “The university's future is closely associated with the support from SMJKs throughout the country,” said President Wang.  

Ms Huang Hongjiao, Principal of SMJK Chung Hua (Negeri Sembilan), spoke on behalf of the Council. She said that she was deeply impressed by XMUM's outstanding facility and professionalism on all levels and gave her best wishes to the university’s future development.  

Ms Li Xiaowen, PA to XMUM President, then briefed the principals about the milestone, current development and future prospects of XMUM. The university’s rapid speed of development, commitment to educational excellence, and educational philosophies left a strong impression on the guests.  

The Council then exchanged souvenirs with XMUM before going on a tour of the campus.  

SMJK are public secondary schools with Chinese language as a compulsory subject. Currently, there are 81 SMJKs in Malaysia.
