 XMUM Ranks Among ESI Global Top 1% in Clinical Medicine

According to the Essential Science Indicators (ESI) ranking released in January 2021, Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) is ranked among global top 1% in the Clinical Medicine discipline, which is the first discipline of XMUM that has entered the ranking. As of January 2021, XMUM has published 37 SCIE/SSCI research papers in Clinical Medicine with a total citation of 4,685, 126.62 times per paper on average. 10 of the 37 papers have been listed as top papers in terms of the times of citation.

XMUM Forges International Collaboration with Top Universities

This year, XMUM forges new collaborative partnerships with 2 top universities - University of Birmingham and Queen Mary University of London - and launched Study Abroad Scheme. Under this scheme, students are able to spend a semester or a year abroad at the partner university, earning global exposure and cultural experience. To date, XMUM has established academic partnerships with 17 highly acclaimed universities across the world.

 Nine XMUM Faculty Members Receive 2021 MOHE Research Fund

Nine XMUM faculty members from School of Energy and Chemical Engineering, School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Innovation Center and Research Management Center, have received Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS) 2021 awarded by the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) Malaysia, with a total allocation of RM 1,141,484.00. To date, 22 XMUM faculty members have received FRGS from MoHE for their research projects in the past 4 years.


XMUM Celebrates the Graduation of its Pioneer Batch of Postgraduates

XMUM celebrates the graduation of its first batch of 17 postgraduate students from MBA and Master of Arts in Chinese Studies programmes in September 2021, with degrees conferred by Xiamen University. At present, XMUM boasts an enrollment of about 6,000 students from 33 countries and regions.


XMUM Launches 5 New Academic Programmes

Six news academic programmes have been launched in the past year - including 3 undergraduate programmes (Bachelor of Engineering in Cyber Security, Bachelor of Engineering in Data Science and Bachelor of Management in E-Commerce), 1 masters programme (Master of Communication and Culture) and 1 PhD programme (PhD in Chinese Studies). Currently, XMUM holds a total of 2 foundation programmes, 22 bachelor's programmes, 7 masters programmes and 4 PhD programmes.


International Conferences Take XMUM to a New Level of Academic Excellence

During 2021, a series of international academic conferences were organized or co-organized by XMUM - including the 1st International Conference on Energy Materials, International Conference on Media Science & Digital Communication, as well as the 4th Future and Smart Cities Conference, Resilient and Responsible Architecture & Urbanism Conference, the 7th Earth Observation for Environmental Changes Conference and the 9th Geo-information Technologies for Natural Disaster Management Conference, taking the University to a new level of academic excellence.

Dr. Ong Wee Jun Named 2021 Highly Cited Researcher by Clarivate

For three consecutive year (2019, 2020 and 2021), Associate Professor Dr. Ong Wee Jun from XMUM School of Energy and Chemical Engineering has been named Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher for the cross-field category, entering the top 1% of the most-cited scientists for field and publication year in the Web of ScienceTM citation index. At present, Dr. Ong Wee Jun has published over 95 peer-reviewed journal papers indexed by the Web of Science, with an average citation of over 115 per paper.

Seven XMUM Academics Recognized by Stanford as World’s Top 2% Scientists 2021

Seven XMUM faculty members from School of Energy and Chemical Engineering, China-ASEAN College of Marine Sciences, Innovation Center, School of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Department of Physics, have been listed among the World's Top 2% Scientists 2021 by Stanford University, placing XMUM in the global map of scientific research excellence. Their research fields cover Nanoscience & Nanotechnology, Applied Physics, Complementary & Alternative Medicine, Environmental Science, Biotechnology, and General & Internal Medicine.

Career Services Office Launches “Internship Starter Pack” to Facilitate Students’ Job Hunting

In 2021, Career Services Office launched “Internship Starter Pack” programme to facilitate students’ job hunting skills during the pandemic, with over 300 participants for each session. From drafting resume and cover letter to tackling interview questions with confidence, the project provides students with extensive knowledge on what to expect during their internship placement process.

XMUM Students Excel in Academic & Innovation Competitions

A number of XMUM students have achieved outstanding results in a series of Academic and innovation competitions in the past year, including Gold Award & Silver Award at the 7th China International College Students’ “Internet+” Competition, First Prizes & Second Prizes at the 2nd China-Malaysia Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, Best Oral Presentation Award at the 7th International Conference on Low Carbon and Asia Beyond, and Best Paper Award at the 5th International Conference on Engineering Technology.
