Dr. Ong Wee Jun & Team Invited to Publish in Nanoscale Horizons (IF > 10)

The Research Management Center congratulates Lim Xian Bin, a recent graduate from School of Energy and Chemical Engineering and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ong Wee Jun for their invited publication in Nanoscale Horizons, a tier-1 journal with an impact factor of 10.989. 

This work has been featured in the journal’s themed collection “Horizons Community Board Collection: Solar Energy Conversion, as well as on the Royal Society of Chemistry’s official WeChat page (for more details, please refer to the link: https://mp.weixin.qq.com/s/JSbD4MBbq7b14i3C22zArw).

Entitled “A current overview of the oxidative desulfurization (ODS) of fuels utilizing heat and solar light: from materials design to catalysis for clean energy, the review emphasizes the latest advances in thermal catalytic ODS and photocatalytic ODS related to the design and synthesis routes of myriad materials, encompassing the engineering of metal oxides, ionic liquids, deep eutectic solvents, polyoxometalates, metal–organic frameworks, metal-free materials and their hybrids in the customization of advantageous properties in terms of morphology, topography, composition and electronic states.

The figure illustrates the catalyst design and mechanisms for thermal-driven and light-driven ODS of fuels. The essential connection between catalyst characteristics and performances in ODS as well as the reaction mechanism is vital to provide thorough insights for shaping future research directions. 

The research project is funded by Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS), Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) Malaysia, Xiamen University Malaysia, and Hengyuan International Sdn. Bhd.

Lim: It is an honor for me to publish this review paper in Nanoscale Horizons under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ong Wee Jun. I would like to extend my greatest gratitude to him for giving me this opportunity, and providing remarkable support and guidance throughout the writing of this review paper. Moreover, Dr. Ong has helped me strengthen my writing skills, analytical skills and various soft skills in manuscript preparation. I hope this review paper could deliver valuable insights to researchers in the field of thermal-driven and light-driven oxidative desulfurization.”

 

Dr. Ong Wee Jun serves as an Associate Professor at XMUM School of Energy and Chemical Engineering. He has won several prestigious awards, including the Merdeka Award Grant, Young Researcher Award from Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) and the Green Talent Award presented by the German government. He was also named as a “Global Highly Cited Researcher 2019, 2020 and 2021” by Clarivate Analytics and “World’s Top 2% Scientists 2020 and 2021” by Stanford University. Dr. Ong is directing an independent research center called “Center of Excellence for NaNo Energy & Catalysis Technology (CONNECT)” at XMUM and is currently recruiting postgraduate students/postdocs for his NanoECats research group. For candidates who are interested, please contact him at weejun.ong@xmu.edu.my.
