Dr. Tan Swee Tiam Named Expert Returnee by TalentCorp Malaysia


The Research Management Center congratulates Associate Professor Dr. Tan Swee Tiam from School of Energy and Chemical Engineering for being named an Expert Returnee under the Returning Expert Programme (REP) by Talent Corporation Malaysia (TalentCorp).

Dr. Tan returned to his home country and joined Xiamen University Malaysia in March 2020. Before that, he worked as the Programme Manager and Senior Scientist at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. With over 15-year experience in semiconductor light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and LED lighting and displays, as well as semiconductor devices and physics, he has published over 100 top-tier peer-reviewed SCI journal publications with h-index of 39 and i-index of 92 (Google Scholar), including one cited for more than 740 times.

Because of his substantial scientific research work and innovation in LED material and device designs, a strong IP portfolio has been generated, including over 30 international patents and related know-how, in which 16 patents were granted.

TalentCorp is a government agency under the Ministry of Human Resources (MOHR) which engages with multiple talent groups, including Malaysian professionals abroad, towards securing a world-class talent pool to support the growth of key economic sectors in Malaysia. To this end, it oversees REP which is offered to qualified Malaysian professionals abroad who seek to bring home the experiences, knowledge and intercultural abilities they have gained from their time overseas.
