Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) is now seeking highly motivated, committed and qualified individual to join our diverse and dynamic university for the position of LABORATORY OFFICER.

 

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Applicants must possess a Master degree in the related discipline

  2. At least two (2) years of working experience in a laboratory

  3. Fluency in both spoken and written English

  4. Excellent presentation and interpersonal skills

 

A) LABORATORY OFFICER (WITH LAB PRACTICAL TEACHING)

The Laboratory Officer plays an important role in the overall safety of the laboratory and is responsible for managing the daily operations of the laboratory. The Laboratory Officer takes responsibility for all aspects of the laboratory, including but not limited to: instruments/ equipment, users of the laboratory, and supplies needed to ensure the laboratory runs smoothly. Lab officer is accountable for all aspects of the laboratory service and is the key bridge between laboratory operations and general practice.

 

 

1. China-ASEAN SCHOOL OF MARINE SCIENCE (CAMS)

REQUIREMENTS:

1) MSc in Chemistry and Biotechnology or related majors;

2) Experience in conducting laboratory demonstration particularly in marine related teaching/research in the following areas:

Ecology laboratory technique

Mariculture laboratory technique

Phycology laboratory technique

Advance molecular biology technique

Microbiology technique

Histology and staining technique

3) Experience in marine related field experiments;

4) Excellent communication skills;

5) Very good organizational and multi-tasking abilities;

   

2. ELECTRICAL, ELECTRONIC ENGINEERING LABORATORY (EEE)

REQUIREMENTS:

1) MSc. or PhD. holder in Electrical and Electronics Engineering or related majors;

2) Registration with Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM);

3) Significant experience in setting up Electrical and Electronics Engineering labs and conducting the related lab courses.

4) Experience in working in a higher education establishment.

5) Experience with Malaysian Qualification Agencies (MQA) and Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC) requirements and evaluations.

 

B) LABORATORY CENTRE (INSTRUMENT SPECIALIST)

 

The Laboratory Officer plays an important role in the overall safety of the laboratory and is responsible for managing the daily operations of the laboratory. The Laboratory Officer takes responsibility for all aspects of the laboratory, including but not limited to: instruments/ equipment, users of the laboratory, and supplies needed to ensure the laboratory runs smoothly. Lab officer is accountable for all aspects of the laboratory service and is the key bridge between laboratory operations and general practice.


1. INSTRUMENT SPECIALIST FOR CHROMATOGRAPHY

 

REQUIREMENTS:

1) MSc. degree in related field (i.e. analytical chemistry) or related majors;

2) Preferably with related industrial experience;

3) MUST be competent in operating the following instrument:-

      1. high-performance liquid chromatography

      2. gas chromatography

4) MUST be familiar with sample preparation for related analytical instrument.

 

 

2.   INSTRUMENT SPECIALIST FOR SPECTROSCOPY

 

REQUIREMENTS:

1) MSc. degree in related field (i.e. analytical chemistry) or related majors;

2) Preferably with related industrial experience;

3) MUST be competent in operating at least TWO (2) of the following instrument:-

  1. Atomic absorption spectroscopy 

  2. Inductively coupled plasma - optical emission spectrometry 

  3. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy  

  4. UV-Spectrophotometry

4) MUST be familiar with sample preparation for related analytical instrument

 

 

3. INSTRUMENT SPECIALIST FOR CELL BIOLOGY

 

REQUIREMENTS:

1) MSc. degree in related field (e.g. biochemistry, biotech, biomedicine etc.) or related majors;

2) Preferably with related industrial experience;

3) MUST be competent in operating following instrument or technique:-

    1. Flow cytometry, cytokine bead-array, ELISA, ELISpot.

    2. Tissue culture technique

    3. Sample preparation technique related to cell biology e.g. cell isolation, cryopreservation and resuscitation techniques.

4) Having experience in the following techniques will be a plus point:

    1. Basic molecular biology technique: PCR, RT-PCR, real-time PCR

    2. Advance molecular biology technique: gene cloning, protein expression and protein purification.

    3. Bacterial culture technique

    4. Histology and fluorescence microscope techniques


4. INSTRUMENT SPECIALIST FOR PROTEIN ANALYSIS

 

REQUIREMENTS:

1) MSc. degree in related field (e.g. biochemistry, biotech, biomedicine etc.) or related major;

2) Preferably with related industrial experience;

3) MUST be competent in operating following instrument or technique:-

    1. 2D-gel electrophoresis, western-blotting

    2. Protein chromatography

    3. Protein extraction techniques

4) Having experience in the following techniques will be a plus point:

  1. Surface plasmon resonance or bio-layer interferometry

  2. Protein crystallography

  3. Advance molecular biology technique: gene cloning, protein expression and protein purification.

  4. Flow cytometry, cytokine bead-array, ELISA, ELISpot and tissue culture

  5. Bacterial culture technique

  6. Histology and fluorescence microscope techniques.
