A renowned university in China

Xiamen University (XMU) was founded by a Malayan Chinese Mr. Tan Kah Kee in 1921. The university is the first to be founded by an overseas Chinese in modern Chinese history. Since its establishment, the university has committed itself to building a world-class research university, with missions of 'conducting high-impact research, cultivating specialized talents, developing global cultures and promoting human progress'. By adhering to the motto of 'Pursue Excellence, Strive for Perfection', the university is presently rated among the top 20 in China. It also ranks eighth among universities recognized as possessing a distinct global outlook in China. It has initiated collaborations with over 250 institutions of higher learning worldwide, spanning the UK, US, Japan, France, Russia, Malaysia, etc. In addition, the university has dedicated to engendering an internationally oriented academic environment through, for example, classes conducted in English, publishing in English and the development of an international campus culture.

At present, Xiamen University has three campuses, covering a total area of around 1,500 acres. Each campus is located close to the seashore and the foot of low scenic mountains. Because of this natural location combined with its unique 'Tan Kah Kee architectural style', the university is recognized as one of the most beautiful university, the campus in Malaysia will become another beautiful addition to the landscape.

36 doctoral programmes and 45 masters programmes of top-layer disciplines

187 disciplines that admit doctoral candidates, 279 disciplines that admit master-degree candidates and 90 majors that admit undergraduates

2,777 full-time teachers (2,045 professors and associate professors accounting for 73.6% of all the teachers; 2,363 with doctoral degrees, accounting for 85%

21 academicians of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering (China's highest academic institutions)

Over 40,000 students on campus (20,651 undergraduates, 16,712 masters students and 4,347 doctoral students), including over 1,208 overseas students
